INTRODUCTION TO SHAMATHA & VIPASHYANA
CHOE KHOR SUM LING, BANGALORE   (February 13 - 15 2015)

Shamatha is the practice of developing a calm, clear & focussed mind. Not only does this practice provide us with a method to sooth our agitated dysfunctional mind but it also provides us with an effective basis for the vipashyana practice of emptiness.

This weekend begins on Friday evening with an introduction into these two practices of shamatha and vipashyana. Saturday will then be devoted to describing and practicing the three shamatha methods of observing the breath, observing the mind and resting in awareness. And Sunday will be devoted to introducing the view of emptiness, learning how to meditate on emptiness and then finally how to integrate both the shamatha and vipashyana practices into our daily life.

"I am delighted that the Center for Contemplative Research is offering opportunities for rigorous mind-training and collaborative research by practiced contemplatives and scientists. Together they seek to explore the inner sources of mental conflict and distress, the roots of genuine well-being, and the origins, nature, and potentials of the mind."
