CULTIVATING MINDFULNESS & EMOTIONAL BALANCE

A primary Sanskrit term commonly translated as 'meditation' is bhavanā, which literally means 'cultivation', and various forms of meditation are designed to cultivate a heightened sense of ethical awareness, more authentic aspirations for genuine happiness versus mere hedonic pleasure, attention skills, clear mindfulness and emotional balance.

During this four day retreat we will learn how to develop and enhance our attention skills, how to strengthen our faculty of mindfulness. As a basis for our training we will be drawing upon the centuries of wisdom and expertise found within the various Buddhist traditions.

We will also be focussing on the cultivation of emotional balance. In particular how to identify and effectively deal with imbalances such as attachment and anger. And how to effectively cultivate the positive qualities such as loving-kindness
and compassion.

This four day retreat will not only emphasize the learning of these skills but also how to cultivate them and integrate them into our daily life so that they may form a suitable basis for our pursuit of genuine happiness and well-being.
