“I am delighted that the Center for Contemplative Research, under development in Tuscany, Italy, has taken up the challenge in not only offering opportunities for rigorous mind-training, but also in supporting collaborative research by practiced contemplatives and scientists. Together they seek to explore the inner sources of mental conflict and distress, the roots of genuine well-being, and the origins, nature, and potentials of the mind.”

The Center for Contemplative Research (CCR) is designed to provide an optimal environment for highly qualified individuals to devote themselves to full-time contemplative training. They will practice under the close guidance of experienced teachers, each with several thousands of hours of personal practice. During the course of their multi-year training, they will collaborate with visiting scientists to fully understand the psychophysiological changes that occur during the course of their practice. While the scientists monitor the effects of the contemplatives’ meditation, scientists will also learn about the inner experiences and discoveries made by the contemplatives. Meditators, in turn, will learn from scientists about the insights gained from their research.
Our 18 cabins are designed specifically to support meditators in long-term retreat. They feature sustainably sourced and energy-efficient wood frame construction in a compact layout providing comfortable and healthy conditions for months and years of solitary practice. The kitchen is well separated from the primary meditation space which offers panoramic vistas of the Mediterranean and mountain peaks. The passive solar design will provide year-round comfort with reduced energy input.
PROJECT UPDATE September 2019
Dear Friends and Supporters,
We want to share with you the much anticipated news that on July 30 the City Council of Castellina Marittima formally approved our project to build 18 sustainable cabins designed specifically for long-term meditators. We plan to begin construction as soon as the final permits are issued this Fall and build the electrical, water distribution, and septic systems along with the roads and cabin foundations through the winter. We expect the first cabins to be erected in the spring of 2020 and plan on completing by the end of 2020.
The work we do at the CCR will contribute significantly to gaining a deeper understanding of the nature and potentials of consciousness and of the true source of genuine well-being.
Our fundraising goal for Phase Two is $ 2.8 million. We are asking friends and supporters to please continue or start supporting our project with your generosity. Thank you for helping us create this unique facility that can contribute to humanity.
